Actress Jennifer Lawrence and Academy President Tom Sherak will announce the nominations bright and early tomorrow morning at 5:30 am PST. I will be live tweeting while watching the announcement, unveiling the nominees.
A few of you have asked me to post my predictions for the top Oscar categories, so I gave them a whirl and here’s what and who I think the Academy has nominated this year.
Midnight in Paris
Note: The Academy can nominate between 5-10 films for Best Picture, I’m thinking these eight could be on the ballot.
Jean Dujardin, The Artist
George Clooney, The Descendants
Michael Fassbender, Shame
Brad Pitt, Moneyball
Leonardo DiCaprio, J Edgar
Sorry… to Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, it didn’t get the buzz here like it did in England.
Michelle Williams, My Week with Marilyn
Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady
Viola Davis, The Help
Tilda Swinton, We Need to Talk About Kevin
Rooney Mara, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Sorry…to Charlize Theron for Young Adult and to Berenice Bejo for The Artist, even though you were a lead, the Academy will only count you as supporting.
Best Supporting Actor
Christopher Plummer, Beginners
Kenneth Branagh, My Week With Marilyn
Albert Brooks, Drive
Jonah Hill, Moneyball
Ben Kingsley, Hugo
Sorry…to Nick Nolte for Warrior, even though I loved his performance and that movie! Armie Hammer for J Edgar and Philip Seymour Hoffman for The Ides of March.
Best Supporting Actress
Octavia Spencer, The Help
Bérénice Bejo, The Artist
Jessica Chastain, The Help
Janet McTeer, Albert Nobbs
Shailene Woodley, The Descendants
Sorry…to Melissa McCarthy for Bridesmaids. I hope I’m wrong here, I would love to see this fine actress get nominated, but the Academy just doesn’t favor comedies like it should. And to Marion Cotillard for Midnight in Paris, meh.
