Favorite Films

This is a list of my absolute favorite films. While they may not be Oscar worthy or the best films, these movies have impacted my life in one way or another and are definitely worthy of at least a few views.

Cruel Intentions- I grew up with this movie and it features one of my favorite actresses, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who gives one of the best performances as the sexy, dangerous femme fatale no one should mess with. Besides the amazing performances by Gellar, Phillippe and Witherspoon, Cruel Intentions is so brilliant because it is a period film drama set in modern times. The screenplay is witty, sexy and funny. I know I’ve seen this film more than any other.

It’s A Wonderful Life- Frank Capra’s classic feel-good movie changed my life and the way I look at motion pictures. This silver screen masterpiece doesn’t have one thing wrong with it and is the best story I’ve ever heard.

You’ve Got Mail- My favorite romantic comedy that stars two of my favorite actors, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. They have perfect chemistry on screen.

Mean Girls- The most quotable movie I’ve ever seen and one of the best comedies ever made. Tina Fey’s dialogue is masterful. Mean Girls is full of laughs, cute moments, girl power and lust. Lohan and McAdams give some of the best performances of their careers.

Crazy, Stupid, Love.- It’s been a long time since I walked out of a theatre, feeling truly impressed by a movie, especially a romantic comedy! I immediately wanted to walk right back in and see this again. This is a film full of relationships, but it’s Steve Carrell and Ryan Gosling’s relationship that carries the story until the end. Emma Stone’s performance stuck with me in this film as well, she’s relatable and charismatic.

The Nightmare Before Christmas- The most uniquely animated film ever told and the best stop-motion animation there ever was. A mix between my favorite holidays, Halloween and Christmas make this a wondrous film. Tim Burton’s story is a cult classic and will be watched for years to come.

Drive-
Anyone who knows me knows I’m completely obsessed with this film AND it’s soundtrack! Ryan Gosling as Driver couldn’t have been a more perfect fit. He says so little, yet connects so emotionally well with the audience. Arguably every single scene is shot perfectly. It was the most original film of 2011. I could watch this over and over again.

The Social Network- David Fincher created a masterpiece and Jesse Eisenberg became a star. A perfect cast, beautiful score and a director who brought the story of Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook to life make this film an instant classic. The dialogue scene at the beginning between Eisenberg and Rooney Mara’s characters is one of my favorites to date.

Love Actually- The ultimate of romantic comedies and a film with a talented cast that is actually done right! To me, this film is perfect!

Sleepy Hollow- The cinematography is breathtaking, Johnny Depp is comedic and dark, and Christina Ricci proves herself to be an actress among actresses. Tim Burton’s directing style makes this Gothic tale worth watching multiple times. This is my favorite Burton film, Sweeney Todd is a close second.

Kill Bill- I love a great kick ass girl power film and this one takes the cake. Uma Thurman and Quentin Tarantino are one of my favorite actor/director pairings. This may not be Tarantino’s best film ever made (that would go to Pulp Fiction), but this is certainly my favorite. The fight scene between Thurman and Liu at the end of Vol. 1 is one of the best action scenes I’ve ever seen.

Back to the Future- “88 miles per hour!!” Do I need to say more?

When Harry Met Sally- “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Toy Story & Toy Story 3- Theses are the best of the best in the Pixar world. Toy Story gives us a great message how friendship can conquer all and a beautiful story about the hardships of growing up. The third installment to the franchise is possibly the best three-quel ever made.
