‘Captain America: Civil War’ Review: Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. & Sebastain Stan

I adore you Joss Whedon, but this is what Avengers: Age of Ultron should have been. I also really like you Zack Synder and really enjoyed Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but this is how you pit two superheroes against each other with a fully fleshed out story. The Russo Brothers know how to make a fantastic superhero film and already proved that with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The Winter Soldier is fantastic but Civil War is easily one of the best films of the year. (I still really really love Deadpool, too). Chris Evans was born to play Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. perfectly reprises his role in his sixth film as Iron Man. The airport scene is one of the best scenes of any superhero movie ever and worth the price of the movie ticket!

Captain America: Civil War is the 13th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Civil War picks up after the story of Ant-Man has taken place and years after The Winter Soldier. Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and a few of the Avengers have come to a crossroads. The government wants to take control of the Avengers to avoid civilian deaths and to decide on what missions they are allowed to do. While Tony Stark agrees that their needs to be a law in place, Steve Rogers believes it should be up to the Avengers discretion. After much debate, Captain America and Iron Man end up disagreeing on what is best and their fellow superhero buds end up picking sides on which they want to stand with.

I have to say, Andrew Garfield is my favorite among the Spider-Mans, but Tom Holland kills it here as our young nerdy Spider-Man, who Tony Stark recruits on his team. This is the first time we’ve seen Spider-Man as a true high schooler that is geeking out amongst his heroes. After this film, I can’t wait to see his first Spider-Man film.

It’s definitely worth seeing the film in IMAX, but in IMAX 2D if the theatre allows it. The 3D is not great and with so many of the quick paced action scenes, it tends to look blurry a lot of the time. The sound and 17-minute long IMAX airport scene is incredible and definitely one of the most memorable scenes in superhero film history.

The Russo Brothers have struck gold with their direction of the Captain America films, while Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. are exceptional as Captain America and Iron Man. Guardians of the Galaxy may be my favorite MCU film to date but Civil War equally matches the nerdom and fan power. An excellent edition to the Captain America franchise and the Marvel universe that will more than please fans and gain new ones.
